Point spread functions for mapping artificial night sky luminance over large territories

چکیده

Knowledge of the night sky radiance over a large territory may be valuable informationto identify sites appropriate to astronomical observations or for assessing impacts ofartificial light at on ecosystems. Measuring can complex endeavourdepending desired temporal and spatial resolution. Similarly, modelling artificialnight multiple points represent significant amount ofcomputing time depending complexity model used. The use convolutionof point spread function with sources geographical distribution has been suggestedin order territories hundreds kilometres in size.We determine how is sensitive main driving parameters ofthe artificial such as wavelength, ground reflectance, obstaclesproperties, Upward Light Output Ratio Aerosol Optical Depth using Illuminav2 model. obtained functions were used brightness Mont-M\'egantic International Dark Sky Reserve winter summer conditions. Theresults compared New world atlas brightness, situ Quality Camera measurements. We found that atlasoverestimates by 55% whereas Illumina underestimatesit 48%. This due varying atmospherical conditions fact modelonly accounts public sources.

The new world atlas of artificial night sky brightness

Artificial lights raise night sky luminance, creating the most visible effect of light pollution-artificial skyglow. Despite the increasing interest among scientists in fields such as ecology, astronomy, health care, and land-use planning, light pollution lacks a current quantification of its magnitude on a global scale. To overcome this, we present the world atlas of artificial sky luminance, ...

Artificial light alters natural regimes of night-time sky brightness

Artificial light is globally one of the most widely distributed forms of anthropogenic pollution. However, while both the nature and ecological effects of direct artificial lighting are increasingly well documented, those of artificial sky glow have received little attention. We investigated how city lights alter natural regimes of lunar sky brightness using a novel ten month time series of meas...

Citizen Science Provides Valuable Data for Monitoring Global Night Sky Luminance

The skyglow produced by artificial lights at night is one of the most dramatic anthropogenic modifications of Earth's biosphere. The GLOBE at Night citizen science project allows individual observers to quantify skyglow using star maps showing different levels of light pollution. We show that aggregated GLOBE at Night data depend strongly on artificial skyglow, and could be used to track lighti...

All-sky Relative Opacity Mapping Using Night Time Panoramic Images

An all-sky cloud monitoring system that generates relative opacity maps over many of the world’s premier astronomical observatories is described. Photometric measurements of numerous background stars are combined with simultaneous sky brightness measurements to differentiate thin clouds from sky glow sources such as air glow and zodiacal light. The system takes a continuous pipeline of all-sky ...

Point-spread functions for interferometric imaging

Interferometric redatuming is a data-driven method to transform seismic responses with sources at one level and receivers at a deeper level into virtual reflection data with both sources and receivers at the deeper level. Although this method has traditionally been applied by cross-correlation, accurate redatuming through a heterogeneous overburden requires solving a multidimensional deconvolut...
